FAQ
How are lessons personalised for my child?
During consultations, students get an opportunity to share a bit about themselves and interests. This doesn’t have to always be (and often isn’t!) English-related. Our aim is to identify what language topics peak your child’s interest, and approach sessions by joining the world of interests and academia together. Their interests and methods of learning will be incorporated specially in their learning plan.
For example, if your child is interested in Art and Photography, we will look at links between relevant art and literature based on it. If your child is interested in Sports, we will look at texts about sports and non-fiction works. The links between English and students' interests are endless.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
I work closely with all clients to promote a continuous flow of communication between parent/carer and tutor. This way, you can always ask questions about what your child is working on in their tuition sessions, what their strengths/weaknesses are, and how they are achieving a development in understanding of a topic.
Do you support students with SEND needs?
Yes! The nature of personalised tuition takes into account all learning needs. Preliminary Consultations are not the only time the parents/carers get to discuss expectations, I promote an open communication dynamic and am happy to discuss any specialised requests, worries, and additional needs for your student.
How often should my child have tuition?
Frequency of tuition sessions are dependent on individual need. Some students have two lessons a month as refreshers and knowledge consolidation; some students have two lessons a week for more focused and content-based teaching. By the end of your free preliminary consultation, we will come to a plan of both how often your child requires lessons, and what we will cover in them.
Do you set homework?
Yes! I am happy to set homework if the parent/carer wishes - this is usually decided by how much homework your child is already receiving from school, and if homework tasks or projects will develop their familiarity with a topic.
Can you guarantee improvement on my child’s grades?
No tuition service can honestly guarantee grades. The work is a shared effort between tutor, child, and family to develop their familiarity with the subject. This is so that when your child sits down at that exam-desk with a pen and clock clicking down, we have thoroughly equipped them with confidence that they know the paper inside-and-out.
